I am passionate about the Reformation and how the people and processes of the sixteenth century shaped the identity and evolution of the church in England as it became the Church of England and how this led to the development of an distinct Anglican identity.
This is a huge subject with new discoveries about the period still being made today. Rather than a definitive and comprehensive guide, this site offers a humble introduction to some of the main players and events that contributed to what is called The Reformation. By focusing on what was happening in the emerging nation of Switzerland, we will see how new ideas and events impacted the evolution of ecclesiastical understanding in England.
A great way to aid understanding is to stand where the Reformers actually stood and walk the streets they walked as we discover how their thinking challenged the status quo and led to new, and at times violent, expressions of church. A guided tour of Switzerland offers the opportunity to explore the well-preserved medieval cities, churches and monasteries that help to tell and bring alive the story of the Reformation in a way that dusty old books in a library never can. Let's also admit that Switzerland is a very nice place to visit 😁!

I am grateful to my Bishop and my parish for granting me a Sabbatical giving the opportunity to research an itinerary and material for such a tour. I am also grateful to a number of grant-making bodies who helped contribute towards funding the trip.
The Reverend Duncan Strathie
Vicar of Moseley in the Diocese of Birmingham
